Compare Installation Methods When You Shop For New Luxury Vinyl Planks At An LVP Flooring Dealer

Posted on: 8 November 2022

Luxury vinyl plank, or LVP flooring, is a good choice when you're planning on installing the flooring yourself. LVP flooring is attractive, looks like wood or stone, and has installation methods that are easy for just about anyone to master. You'll also have a lot of choices when you visit the LVP flooring dealer since the planks are made to resemble a variety of wood species.

One of the most important decisions to make first is the type of installation method you choose, and that depends on your level of home improvement skills. Here are installation methods to compare.

Click Together

LVP flooring that clicks together floats above an old floor. That could save you the trouble of tearing up an old floor since the new planks float on top of it. Planks that click together are fairly easy to install, and the planks are thin enough to cut easily too.

You'll want to read the installation instructions to find out if you need to put down underlayment first, and if so, you'll want to buy some from the LVP flooring dealer when you get your planks.

Glue Down

Glue-down flooring is one of the more difficult types of installation since glue can be difficult to work with. You might apply the glue to the floor and lay down the planks or add glue to the back of the planks and then lay them down.

If you opt for this type of installation method, be sure to make a list of all the things you'll need for installation so you can buy them along with the planks at the LVP flooring dealer.

Peel-And-Stick

Peel-and-stick planks attach to the floor with adhesive, but the adhesive is already attached to the planks. You peel off the backing and stick the planks to the floor. Be sure to start with a clean floor so the planks stick well. These LVP planks are easy to install for beginners.

Loose Lay

Loose-lay planks are the easiest to install. If you've never put down flooring before, then loose-lay planks would be an excellent choice. These often have a backing that doubles as underlayment and padding so they go down directly on the floor. However, you'll need to make sure the floor is free from imperfections, or cracks can show through the new planks eventually if they're not repaired first.

Since you may fall in love with a particular color or style of planks when you shop at the LVP flooring dealer, get comfortable with the idea of a few types of installation methods. Then you'll have a wider selection of planks to choose from rather than being limited to colors available in loose lay only.
